Captured #21: March 2026
Hello!
Spring has sprung over the last few days. Sunshine, fields of daffodils, blossoms about to bloom. It has felt like a loooooong winter, which is usually the case in Scotland to be fair. Glad it’s behind us.
My photography took a bit of a back seat last month because I was putting on an exhibition (more on that below), but I did manage to sneak in a trip to Istanbul and I’ve had a few good days with the camera out on the streets of Edinburgh too. It feels like my photography year is now starting to warm up – I’m excited about the coming months!
Below are a bunch of photos from Turkey, plus some randoms from around Edinburgh. I’ve also included some videos and a selection of interesting links from around the web. Enjoy!
📷 Photos from Istanbul
I spent a few days in Istanbul last month which was wonderful. It wasn’t a photo trip, but of course I took a lot of photos anyway. I haven’t really done a lot of editing yet (that backlog is getting worryingly large!), but here are a few snaps with quick edits applied.
The weather was very mixed, with wind, rain, snow, and glorious sunshine in the short time we were there. I loved the city and I do plan to go back another year, perhaps in Apr/May time, or Sept/Oct when the weather is a little less unpredictable.
🖼️ Street Photo Social Exhibition Catalogue
The exhibition I put on in Edinburgh a few weeks ago went really well, based on the feedback I got. Footfall was pretty good, we even sold a few prints!
Most of the print catalogues got sold, but if you’d like to see all the work you can buy the digital catalogue for only £3. It’s a high-res PDF and a great way to support the artists (as well as getting me a bit closer to break even! 😅)

Some random snaps from around town that I quite like.

Nuggets of interest on the web:
- FRGMT B&W — A Fujifilm Film Simulation Recipe by Hiroshi Fujiwara. Absolutely love this Fuji film simulation by Hiroshi Fujiwara.
- DJI Osmo Nano looks like impressive tech, but I can’t help but feel it’s taking us one step closer to The Circle and the surveillance singularity.
- KODAK Charmera Keychain Digital Camera. Fun keychain digital camera but it seems inevitable most of these will quickly end up in landfill.
- Hold the phone: How we interact with our mobile phones and each other. Eric Pickersgill’s photo series “Removed” explores how people focus on our phones even while in the presence of others, often to our social and physical detriment. Wonderful idea that is eerily dystopian.
- Glasgow-based @whambamgameboycam takes photos with his Gameboy camera which are oddly satisfying.
- Kagi’s Small Web is a brilliant project that seeks to highlight interesting blogs from across the web. You can now search by category, which allows you to find interesting photography blogs from across the globe. Please support the indie web! Here’s a post about Brassaï that I just found on it, by way of example.
- Knokke - A New Era of Film Scanning. If you want the best film scans possible and you happen to have a grand to spare, you should take a look at this.
- mood.camera is another iPhone camera app with filters, but there’s something really nice about this one – the results are very appealing. £15 one-off purchase, no subscription.
- The photography foundation awards 2025 winners. This is some next-level work! Inspiring stuff.
- FUJIFILM House of Photography Photo Competition 2026. This free photo comp from Fuji might be worth entering.

The Photographer With a National Artist in His Blood
I loved this Walkie Talkie with Manilla-based photographer Kyle Francisco. Wonderful images and a brilliant attitude to life and photography. One of the best I've seen in this long-running series.
Austin (a.k.a. "AV") is fairly new on YouTube but I really like his videos. Simple, but chill.
The photography road trip I always dreamt of
Mike Chudley hangs out in California with Dave Herring. The trip down to the Mojave desert is fun — some of those ghost towns look amazing, would love to visit sometime.

Art School Girlfriend – Lean In
Big fan of Polly Louise Mackey's lo-fi/ambient/dance/shoegaze (i.e. uncategorisable) music. This new album doesn't disappoint. A real grower.
