Captured #20: February 2026
Hi there! 👋
I’m late out of the new year blocks with this issue. We’re deep into the Scottish winter, which actually means it’s cold and wet all the time rather than blue skies and picturesque snow scenes (at least in Edinburgh), so I’ve not been super motivated to get out and take that many pictures.
This is fine because I’m organising a photography exhibition which opens in a few weeks, so I’ve been pretty busy deciding how to print the 33 images (Giclée on Canson Infinity Platine Fibre Rag 👌), what frames to use, as well as designing the catalogue and getting it printed. If you happen to be in Edinburgh between 28th Feb and 4th March, pop along!
Still, I do have a few photos to share, as well as a selection of links, book recommendations and so on. Enjoy! ✨
📷 Some recent photos
A selection of photos I took recently in London, Edinburgh and North Berwick.
🔗 Links ahoy!
Stuff of interest, perhaps. Please do share interesting links with me if you like!
- Fujifilm GFX100RF review. Is it any good for street photography? Read the review on my blog to find out!
- I also blogged about my favourite photos of 2025.
- Roman Fox blogged about his one focal length for life. I’d probably choose 35mm myself. Or maybe 28mm 🤔
- Let’s Solve the Instagram Problem. James Hazelwood pitches for creating photobooks and zines, something that I’m keen to explore. He says “social media is the place where photos go to die”, and there’s a truth in that, but it also levelled the playing field allowing anyone with an internet connection to showcase their work. It’s… complicated.
- This new photography museum in Rotterdam looks amazing.
- I absolutely love This Cultural Life on Radio 4, and there’s a new episode featuring Annie Leibovitz which I enjoyed. There’s also one with Martin Parr in the archives 💔
- RitchieCam is an iPhone camera app that gives you lovely looking filters, just like in the good ol’ days of Instagram. 3 filters for free, £8.99 for a year to get lots more, and support Ritchie. I love his philosophy: No ads. No selling your data. No sneaky tricks. Worth a few quid.
- Classic Chrome FS Recipe from Alicia Cooper. A new Fujifilm film simulation recipe to try out.
- Xiaomi Modular Optical System. This is bonkers. Turn your Xiaomi smartphone into a proper digital camera by magnetically attaching a 35mm f1.4 whopper of a lens on it.
🖼️ A Street Photography exhibition – Edinburgh through the eyes of Edinburgh’s street photographers
I’ve been working on an exhibition to showcase some of the great street photographers based here in Edinburgh. More details on the website.

📚 Book Club
I try and buy books sparingly because too much stuff but sometimes you need to pore over them. Here are a couple of recommendations.
- Dawn Eagleton – Through The Glass. If you’ve never seen Dawn’s work, you’re in for an absolute treat. A lot of her work is also on Instagram.
- Peter Turnley – PARIS Je t’aime. Peter is an incredible photographer having published several books and done reportage for dozens of major publications. This book is a collection of his Paris work over 50 years. Signed copies available on his website.
📺 Sights and Sounds 📻
Some YouTube vids and podcast recommendations. What have you been watching that I should know about?
Why Your Photos Don't Look Cinematic
Learn how Eren Sarigul makes his incredibly cinematic photos.
Photography Lessons I Learnt in 2025
I really enjoy Willem Verbeeck's videos. His laid-back Californian vibe and his journey into street photography always makes me want to get out and shoot. The whole purple LA streetlight thing is also fascinating!
Why MARTY SUPREME looks so good
The deeper I get into photography, the more interested in cinematography I get too. I enjoyed Marty Supreme (but not as much as Uncut Gems) and this is a good explainer about the cinematography.
Billy Dinh – Street Life podcast
Billy Dinh is a modern street photography great, no question. I enjoyed listening to him talk about his work on this podcast.
Soundlab 🔈
Music for the streets.
I'm more than mildly obsessed with both Japan and electronic music, so this album from Japanese female electronic artist SHIMA ticks all the boxes for me. Total vibe.
